Heavy Snow & Icy Roads Travel Advice

With the adverse weather conditions at the moment I have taken a few minutes to just refresh my memory on the travel advice given by the metoffice in association with the highways agency.

If you have to make a journey when snow is forecast, it's snowing or snow has fallen make sure you have:
  • warm clothes,
  • gloves,
  • food,
  • water,
  • boots,
  • blankets,
  • grit or salt,
  • a torch
  • and spade.
Always tell someone about your travel plans:
  • the route to be taken,
  • time started journey,
  • estimated length of journey and
  • when due to arrive at destination.
Consider the conditions of the roads:
  • try to wait until the roads have been gritted before travelling.
  • travel on major routes.
  • carry salt or grit on the car for extra gritting.
Only travel if really necessary.

Take care if you do have to venture out or you are heading to our holiday cottages.
