Byland Abbey, is an English Heritage site, is noted for its glazed tiles and remains of a high circular window in the west wall.
Byland was a Cistercian abbey and much of the huge cathedral-sized church survives, including the whole north side and the greater part of the 13th-century west front.
It is believed that the great circular rose window, now surviving only in part, was probably the model for the rose window of York Minster.
The Abbey is open to the public from 1 Apr-30 Sep from 11am-6pm Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, & Sun.
Byland Abbey is just a 20 minute drive from Old Byland and Valley View Farm cottages, so why not combine a stay at our 4 star cottages with a visit to Byland Abbey.
For those of you who are interested in visiting sites of historical and cultural interest then Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle are also within reasonable travelling distance.
