National Bike Week 19th-27th June 2010

National Bike Week is from the 19-27 June 2010, so get on your bike!

The idea of National Bike Week is to promote cycling and show how cycling can easily be part of everyday life. Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to get people to give cycling a go all over the UK.

The Bike Week website states, "Bike Week is the UK's largest mass participation cycling event and provides an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fitness and fun, not to mention an alternative form of transport."

The website gives five reasons to get on your bike:
1. Over half of UK car journeys are less than 5 miles – swapping them for an easy 30 minute bike ride can save you a small fortune in fuel costs
2. Cyclists live on average at least two years longer than non-cyclists and their fitness levels are equivalent to being ten years younger – so forget nip and tuck, think pedal and push!
3. Cycling is the ultimate family activity; it’s free, healthy, fun and encourages children to be independent
4. Cycling gets you out and about and you’re more likely to find that beautiful park you never knew existed than when you’re cooped up in a car
5. In a hurry? During rush-hour, a bicycle is twice as fast as a car - good if you hate traffic jams! Even better, you won’t spend a penny on parking.

If you feel inspired, then why not take a break in the North Yorkshire Moors where you will be able to find some great cycle routes and cycle trails to get on your bike with the whole family, so why not stay at Valley View Farm Cottages. The North York Moors is a great place to see on two wheels!

If you would like to book a stay at one of the Valley View Farm holiday cottages then you can book online by clicking on the link or alternatively book over the telephone on 01439 798221.

Bank Holidays

Typical! Raining on and off all weekend back to work and the sun is shining…Some of the staff working here had a busy weekend and I thought it would be worth telling you about their exploits.

One of the girls went down to London for the weekend – there is an excellent train service from York, some of them are straight through and the journey only takes 2 hours, she took in a couple of shows – Dirty Dancing and Thriller and also a trip on the London Eye and had a thoroughly good time. Now whilst she got a bargain on the Hotel front she did complain about the price of drinks, she ordered a Rose wine spritzer and her boyfriend had a pint of beer the price was £11.30 which is far in excess of the prices up here and was not helped by another of the girls saying that she had bought 2 drinks and 2 lunches in the local in Thirsk for £10……

One of the other girls is a keen walker and went up Helvellyn on Saturday – there are excellent links to the Lake District from Valley View Farm and it will not take you long if you fancy climbing one of the highest peaks in England.

Once you are at the top, and as you can see the views are far reaching and stunning, you can take several options of how to get down, you can go up via Striding Edge and come back down the other side - Squirrel Edge or extend the walk and go via Dolly Wagon Pike and down through the valley and back round to Ullswater this should take you about 6 hours and a great sense of achievement when you get down to the bottom – although the lambs did not look too impressed.
