Illuminating York Festival 31 October - 3 November 2012

The Illuminating York Festival returns this year and for the first time visitors to the main event will be able to gain access to the exclusive areas of York Museum Gardens. This festival boasts a £500,000 budget on lighting that transforms the gardens and with a 'Wonderland' theme what better way to prepare for the Christmas period?

Open from 6:30pm-10:30pm (last admission at 10pm) tickets are just £5 for adults and under 5's go free. A great family outing!

Witches & Wizards Weekend on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Enjoy some half term fun with a trip on the Railway and be transported back into a world of magic and enchantment on the 3rd & 4th November this year.

There will be non stop viewings of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone at Pickering Station, as well as book signings with I.R Johnson, author of ‘The Witcher Keys’.

Magic Mike shows will co-incide with train arrivals, there will be facepainting available at Goathland and falconry at Levisham.

On Sunday 4th join Hagrid on the story train departing 11.00 from Pickering Station and returning back 15.40 visiting all stations and plenty of time to stop for photos on the journey.

Its all aboard at Whitby Station as the Goth Express comes back to town. Step aboard the a specially named train service “Goth Express” between Whitby and Grosmont before heading up the line to check out all the spooktacular events.

Half Term at The National Railway Museum

From 27th - 4th November, Paddington Bear will be visiting the National Railway Museum in York.

There will be lots of activities going on including, dress up like Paddington, Teddy Bear Treasure Hunt, and Paddington Bear Storytelling.  Alongisde this there will be the usual children's playground and steam train rides available to keep everyone entertained.

The National Railway Museum always host an array of activities during the school breaks and this is another one sure to be a hit with families.

Bonfire Night


Bonfire Night is Monday 5th November and this can be a stressful time for pets, livestock and wild animals.

If you don't like all the noise of the fireworks over Bonfire night and your pets don't either, then why not consider getting away from it all. Come away with your pet for a quiet time at Old Byland, no loud noises here only peace and quiet awaits both you and your pets. Dogs and other pets are welcome.
