Sheep Signs For Motorists Trialled In North York Moors

I have just read that signs warning motorists of sheep on the road are being trialled in the North York Moors National Park.

As a sheep farmer with a large flock of sheep and lambs on our farm, we welcome these signs as many sheep and lambs are accidentally killed on the roads each year.

The ordnance survey magazine states that, "six signs are to be installed throughout the national park, in a bid to reduce the number of sheep that are killed on the area's roads. (239 sheep and lambs were killed on the Park's highways in 2008.) The signs will be solar-powered and activated by vehicles, and are at first going to be put on two roads. They will be taken away during the winter months and put back in place next spring."

I hope that these signs will help to reduce the number of sheep and lambs killed on the roads. There is nothing better than to see sheep and their lambs roaming the North York Moors and the North Yorkshire countryside.

Why not come and stay in one of our beautifully converted farm buildings and enjoy the sheep and lambs we have on our farm.

Christmas

I know it is a bit early to be talking about Christmas, and I am horrified to see Christmas cards and wrapping paper already out on the supermarket shelves, however I have just taken another booking for Christmas and notice that I have only 2 cottages available now for the Christmas period.
The 2 cottages that are free are Form and Formicary, they are both cosy, warm, one bedroom properties, ideal for a romantic, quiet time away.
Old Byland is well situated to enjoy plenty of walking, cycling and sight seeing, or just sitting back and enjoying the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors views.
Christmas services can be attended at the local Church or if you would like something a little more formal Ampleforth College is a short drive away where you will be able to listen to the beautiful and moving choir of the Benedictine Monks at the College.
Give me a call to book soon!

North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Goathland, North Yorkshire

I thought you might be interested in this up coming event for a very worthy cause, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
The event is on Sunday November 8th and is an opportunity for members of the public to show their support for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, by “walking the line” between Goathland Station and Bridge 30, a distance of less than a mile northwards, from the station. At this time, the Railway will be closed to operations. However, organised tours starting at 10am from Goathland Station, will be on offer, leaving hourly. The tours will enable supporters of the Railway to walk the track and to see Bridge 30 at first hand. Walkers are advised to wear stout foot wear and unfortunately anyone under the age of 10 will not be permitted. The bridge carries the railway over Eller Beck near Darnholme. It is over 150 years old and has reached the end of its life, needing replacement over the Winter period and before the Railway starts its main seasonal operations in March 2010. The Railway has to replace it over the winter, but due to its construction and the difficulties in accessing the site due to its remote location, the estimated cost is about £600,000. Those wanting to walk the line will be asked to contribute £5 per person, with contributions going towards the Appeal. Further information is available from Neal Clarke, Chairman of North Yorkshire Moors Railway Plc at neal.clarke@nymr.co.uk.

What a unique experience! come and stay at Valley View Farm and enjoy this wonderful walk, discounts are available.
