English Heritage Events & Activities At Rievaulx Abbey

Rievaulx Abbey is an English Heritage site and there are some great events planned this year, infact, "2009 is set to be the year of outdoor exploration at Rievaulx Abbey!"

Events & Activities:
  • Trails to help visitors spot signs of the wildlife that take over the site once the doors are closed to the public,
  • New cycling trails encouraging visitors to explore the countryside around Rievaulx Abbey,
  • Wildlife podcasts to download, visitors will be invited to look at Rievaulx’s wild side and discover the life that still fills this magnificent ruin!
  • Medieval falconry – handling birds and learning the skills of a master falconer – on 3 & 4 October.
  • Historian, Julian Humphries, will lead walkers on a recreation of the pilgrimage from Helmsley Castle to Rievaulx Abbey on 3 & 4 May, to show how the two magnificent properties changed the landscape and moulded the contours of the surrounding land during their medieval heyday.
