This years Pickering War Weekend will take place on the 12, 13 and 14 October 2012. So get organised as this is a very popular event and accommodation gets booked up quickly.
The Pickering War Weekend gives you the chance to revisit the past and wartime England, learning about Pickering and the surrounding villages in the way they were in the 1940s.
Events begin at noon on Friday when the flag is raised. Saturday sees processions in the High Street, military vehicles, singers, bands and 40s style evening dresses. The evenings host nostalgic dancing and musical fun.
The railway stations are taken over with Levisham becoming occupied France and Goathland defended by The Home Guard. It is a popular and fun event which is growing each year.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is just a 30 minute drive from Valley View Farm in Old Byland, so why not stay at one of our 4 star self catering cottages and journey back in time to wartime England and learn how the railways played their part in history.
