Comfortable Cottage In The North York Moors

It's lovely when we receive feedback from our guests and we were delighted to receive this email from Paul about his stay at Valley View Farm Cottages.

This was our first visit to Valley View Farm, and for my Italian wife her first visit to the North York Moors. My wife is from Tuscany, and on a fair-weather-day I’d be hard pressed to decide whether I’d rather be in Tuscany or the North York Moors (North York Moors would actually get my vote because of the beer).

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. Helmsley is beautiful, with great cafes and pubs at which fine local food is available. The cottage itself was very comfortable; a good size, well equipped, clean, great views and lovely and warm.

We were also lucky with the weather, and our young kids loved the great outdoors of North Yorkshire (see photo).

See you same time next year.

We were delighted Paul and his family had a good time here at Valley View Farm, we agree that Helmsley is beautiful and we are so glad the children enjoyed being outside here.

World Egg Day 11th October 2019

Today is World Egg Day which is celebrated around the world and helps to raise awareness of the benefits of eggs and their importance in human nutrition.

Fried, poached, scrambled or boiled which is your preferred way to eat them? Why not tuck into an egg for breakfast this morning to set off the day with a hearty meal.

Here at Valley View Farm we have some free range hens and we are hoping they will start laying soon, so we can enjoy fresh eggs.

No doubt we will have fun hunting out our girls nesting sites, as hens often like to find a cosy corner of a barn, the garden or in the undergrowth of a hedge, just to keep us on our toes!

Valley View Farm cottages are based on the family run farm, so if you would like to spend time in a rural setting on a family farm then book a break with us, we welcome guests to come and look at our animals.

Glorious Views On The Farm

Did anyone get a photo of the gorgeous sunrise this morning? If so we'd love to see your photos. We were busy feeding all the livestock and didn't have our phone handy for a photo this morning, but here's a photo from one of the girls in the office on their farm.
Although we didn't manage to get a picture here this morning, the view is always stunning.

We are also only a few miles away from Sutton Bank and the views there are spectacular too.

Why not get a way for the weekend or book a longer break, taking time to relax in our quiet and tranquil setting. Valley View Farm Cottages are a great place to take a break and there are plenty of walks to soak in the views.

Roseberry Topping

Roseberry Topping is a distinctively shaped hill on the border between North Yorkshire and Cleveland.

With magnificent 360 degree views from the summit, on a clear day visitors may see as far as Teesside in one direction and the Yorkshire Dales in another.

The area is rich in wildlife, particularly moorland birds so a camera, binoculars and a pocket guide to bird spotting may be useful! Explore the wooded areas, take a walk in this beautiful landscape or climb to the top for wonderful views of the area.

Roseberry Topping is approximately 23 miles from Old Byland by car so why not make Valley View Farm Cottages your base as you explore Roseberry Topping. If you would like to book a short break at one of the Valley View Farm holiday cottages then you can book online by clicking on the link or alternatively book over the telephone on 01439 798221.

Repairing Stone Walls On The Farm

We have been busy repairing some of our old stone walls and building new stone walls.

It's a busy time here on the farm as we have our sheep lambing later, so we are getting ready so we are getting ready for the ewes to lamb and making sure the fields are ready when we need to turn out the ewes and lambs.

We are based in the North York Moors, in a tiny village called Old Byland with stunning scenery, the views are amazing and the countryside is tranquil. You may just hear the sound of bleating lambs, but that just adds to the wonder.

If you fancy a stay on a real working farm then we have 6 holiday cottages that sleep 2, 4 or 6 people.
Take a look at our cottages to check availability.
