Walkers Website - WalkingWorld

Valley View Farm Cottages are situated in the heart of walkers country in the North York Moors and we often have keen walkers staying in our six holiday cottages. With "a staggering 554 square miles" of North York Moors National Park to cover, there are plenty of walks in the area!

All About Old Byland

Valley View Farm Cottages are situated in the pretty and historic village of Old Byland.

I have recently found a website dedicated to the village of Old Byland so if you would like to find out more about the history of the village before you come to stay then take a look at http://www.oldbyland.org/ you'll even find a mention of us on page 43/44!

you can take a stroll around the pretty village, visit the church or take a walk through the beautiful surrounding North York Moors countryside (there are plenty of walks from our farm.)

You can learn about the history of the village and the Battle of Old Byland with a visit to Rievaulx Abbey.

Take a Steam Train Ride With Santa On NYMR

Here's a quick reminder about the Santa Specials on the North York Moors Railway on the run up to the festive season.

These special excursions are ideal for families with small children. You can choose from 4 shuttle
services each day, either departing from Pickering to Levisham and back, or from Grosmont to Goathland and back.

The fare of £12.50 per person includes a present from Santa for each child, and seasonal refreshments including mince pies, served in our marquees at Pickering or Grosmont stations. Just show your ticket at the marquee. Each excursion can take up to 90 minutes, to allow for each child to meet Santa in his grotto. The train may be stationery for part of the journey.

Granary Cottage Sleeps 6 Available From 24th December 2010

Just wanted to let you know that Granary Cottage , which is our 3 bedroom cottage (sleeps 6) is now only available from Christmas eve until Monday 27th December, for £375.

A fabulous 3 double bedroomed cottage with well laid out spacious accommodation.

Ground Floor

Large sitting room with lovely views over the communal patio and Moors beyond, access directly onto the patio. The sitting room is comfortably furnished for relaxing in and fully equipped with TV, freeview, dvd, video and the open fireplace has a coal effect gas fire.

Kitchen / dining area - The kitchen is fully equipped with integrated appliances - fridge/ freezer, dishwasher, microwave and a split level cooker. The dining area comfortably seats 6. There is a utility area which houses the washer/dryer.

Ground floor bedroom 1

Twin bedded room with large ensuite shower room with toilet and hand basin.

First Floor

Bedroom 2

Spacious, bright double bedded ensuite room which has a bath with shower over and a toilet and hand basin.

Bedroom 3

Good sized twin bedded ensuite room with bath and shower over as well as toilet and hand basin.

Electricity, gas, bedding and all towels are included in the quoted price. Please note that all cottages have a TV in each bedroom, a hairdryer, vacuum cleaner, an iron and ironing board. For those cottages without a freezer Sally is happy for you to use the freezer in the laundry room, however there is a freezer box in each fridge for smaller frozen items. There is also a drying room. All guests have access to the stone walled patio area which is South facing and equipped for your use with garden furniture.

We also have two other cottages available for a weeks break from Christmas eve.

Family Christmas Break For 10 People

Why not spend a family Christmas at Valley View Farm in North Yorkshire. We have two cottages available, Holt and Drey and they can be connected as the door between them can be open, so in both cottages we can accommodate up to 10 people.

Victorian Mill Open For Tours, Hawes 5th December 2010

The sights and sounds of Victorian woodworking machinery will fill Gayle Mill, near Hawes, on a special demonstration day which is being staged for visitors.

On 5th December, visitors will be given an insight into life in a woodworking mill that served the local community for over a century with the chance to see and hear the original 1879 water-powered Victorian woodworking machinery being used. The two special guided tours start at 11am and 2.30pm.

Hawes is approximately 50 miles away from Valley View Farm so why not book a stay here at one of our 4 star holiday cottages in the beautiful village of Old Byland and take a leisurely drive to Hawes and spend the day visiting Gayle Mill's demonstration day, meandering in and out of the pretty shops in Hawes and taking in the beautiful Yorkshire landscape on one of the many walks in and around Hawes.

Farmers Markets North Yorkshire December 2010

What better time to visit a farmers market than in December so that you can pick up some Christmas fayre. Love em or hate em you'll surely be able to pick up some sprouts at a farmers market this December and stock up on your favourite meat and veg for the holiday season at a local stall as well as treat yourself to some chutneys, relishes and preserves that go well with your cold meat platters and cheese for afters, if you can manage to squeeze in a cheese course!

York Ice Factor Ice Rink At Designer Outlet

The Ice Factor, York’s open-air real ice rink returns for another year but this time at a different venue. This year York's Christmas ice rinkis based at the Designer Outlet in Fulford. A village square, featuring log cabins and an illuminated forest with reindeer, has been created to give a scenic setting for the rink and the rink itself is 50% bigger.

Thursday night(18th November) was the official opening of the Ice Rink and the original Calendar Girls, switched on the lights on a giant Christmas tree in the middle of the ice and top junior skater Toni Murray, officially opened the rink with a wonderful display of skating.

The Ice Factor will be open from 9.30am until 9.15pm daily, except Christmas Day, until January 9. Tickets for a one-hour session cost £9.50.

Farmstay AGM & Tourism Conference 2010

Went to the Farmstay AGM & Tourism Conference earlier this week. A very informative, interesting and enjoyable two days spent at Newmarket. On the first day we saw the home of horseracing and the 2500 acres of Jockey club gallops where the horses exercise and had lunch at the National Stud.

Day two was filled with a series of talks about tourism by key speakers from Farmstay, Visit England and other Farmstay members.
