Helmsley Castle

Helmsley Castle is well worth a visit when staying at Valley View Farm Cottages.
  • Helmsley castle dates back to the 12/13th century.
  • The medieval castle ruins are surrounded by ditches and banks.
  • The ruins include the West Tower and a Tudor Mansion.
  • The initial castle was built by Walter Espec until he died and then was continued by the de Roos family.
  • The castle came under siege during the Civil War.
  • There is a visitor centre on site so that you can learn more about the history of the castle.
