Do your children enjoy storys and story telling or do they like drawing, if so then they may well enjoy the children's story illustration session called Once Upon a Time...at the York Art Gallery from 28 - 30 October, 11am - 1pm and 2 - 4pm

Inspired by the illustrations in the Little Gallery exhibition, children will draw the pictures for a story or create a collage of a new story involving your favourite characters. For more information visit the York Art Gallery website.

Half Term Events In York With A Dinosaur Theme

Are your kiddies mad about dinosaurs? If so then why not bring them along to the Yorkshire Museum during half term, where there will be lots of dinosaur themed events taking place throughout the week.

Help make a huge sculpture of the King of the Dinosaurs, the Tyrannosaurus Rex as part of the Big Draw or make your own new type of dinosaur using Super Clay, or invent one using different materials and textures. All inspired by the new gallery, Extinct: A Way of Life.

Fossil Hunting Whitby

Do you fancy some fossil hunting in Whitby? If so then there are two organised trips - one on Monday 11th October 2010 at 10:30am and the second on Sunday 24th October 2010 at 9:30am.

The trips are 3 hours in duration and depart from Grape Lane, Whitby. The trip consists of only 20 people per trip so booking is essential particularly during busy times.

The group will walk up the abbey steps along the cliff top path to a place called Saltwick Bay where the trip organiser will give a talk about how to find fossils and what to look for.

Then the fossil hunt begins with a slowly walk back to Whitby along the foreshore as the tide retreats.

Fossils of some description are always found.

The trip is run by a qualified palaeontologist.

Seed Gathering At Dalby Forest

It's the Seed Gathering Season at Dalby, The Great Yorkshire Forest.

It's a great day out at Dalby Forest with so much to see and do, so why not visit this October and do some seed gathering. Call in at the Visitor Centre for instructions and equipment to collect seed from around the forest.

Art Exhibition Dales Countryside Museum October 2010

Do you enjoy looking at art and sculpture, if so then why not take a trip out to the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes where three artists have teamed up to launch an exhibition called 'Connections'.

The exhibition comprises collages, paintings and sculpture by Laurence Cutting, Ned Hoskins and Dave Ward and runs until 31 October.
