October Potato Week 22nd - 30th October 2011
This half term join in with the Potato Week celebrations and Big Draw activites. There will be artists workshops in the Manor House all week, so you can come and create your own work of art! There will also be a celebration of all things potato with cooking, potato based crafts and everything you need to know about the potato!

Scampston Autumn Plant Fair Sunday 9th October 2011
More than a dozen specialist nurseries and stalls selling garden related items will be attending the Plant Fair on Sunday 9 October. All of the stalls will have excellent plants and products for sale and refreshments will be available all day both on the plant fair field and at The Garden Restaurant.
Scampston Hall is the home to the stunning Walled Garden and Grounds, the beautiful contemporary garden, the gardens only became open to the public for the first time in 2004, people visit from all over the world and it has been received with great acclaim.
In 2006 The House and Garden were featured in the television series 'Hidden Treasure Houses' on Five.
Open for a short period during the late spring, and sitting in its own, more traditional gardens, the Hall is one of the finest country houses in Yorkshire.
Lovingly restored by the Legards, it is a family home and contains many fine works of art, furniture and china.

Star Gazing At Sutton Bank 1st October 2011

The North York Moor National Park makes an excellent venue for star gazing as National Parks have dark and clear unpolluted skies which are not lit up by street lights.

Yorkshire Alpaca Show Thirsk 15th October 2011
Entrance is free and the hugely popular alpaca showing classes will be going on all day.
This event will start at 9.30 a.m. with some of the top breeders from all over the UK displaying their beautiful alpacas for visitors and offering their expert advice on how to keep them.
120 will compete under cover, for rosettes and sashes in an event run under the strict rules and guidance of the British Alpaca Society and presided over by the world-respected judge, Tim Hey.
NEW for this year - FUN classes for Junior Handler, Handsomest Boy Alpaca and Prettiest Girl Alpaca - so bring along your pet alpacas to win rosettes and prizes!
There are numerous trade stands displaying and selling alpaca and associated goods, lots of information and helpful advice for new and established alpaca owners. The Border Mill will display their yarn, buy fleeces and answer any questions on the processing of fleece at their mini-mill. The York & District Guild for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers will have an exhibition of woven and knitted products made from alpaca fibre for you to admire and buy. There will also be stands of alpaca feeds, paddock equipment, all terrain vehicles, alpaca transport, socks and scarves, duvets etc.
So come along and enjoy yourself at this year's Yorkshire Alpaca Show!

Irish Dance Workshops Helmsley Arts Centre 18th September 2011

"Katrina is a very experienced ex-professional dancer trained in Russian ballet and Jazz. She has toured and worked all over the world. In 1999 she started the 'Shannon Irish Dancers', which developed so successfully they soon took part in international dance festivals, winning numerous first places. Over the last five years she has conducted workshops in Ireland, France, Prague and , of course, the UK. The jigs and reels will be performed live by Tiefrung Gleeman - a popular local band of 7 players who rehearse regularly in Terrington."
