Flamborough Head boasts a dazzling white chalk headland which lies on the East coast between Filey and Bridlington. The cliffs stand an impressive 400 feet highThis coastal location has much to offer with a lighthouse, built in 1806 that is 85 feet tall and stands atop a chalk cliff 170 feet high and the old Beacon light tower, dating from circa 1674.
Flamborough head is also a haven for wildlife. Bird watchers and visitors to the headlands can observe seabirds such as gannets and puffins which breed abundantly on the cliffs as well as oyster catchers, gulls, eider ducks and cormorants. There's also a wide variety of plant and other wildlife species.
As well as its distinctive white cliffs, there are coves, sea caves and stacks along the coastline for the visitor to explore.
It is free to visit Flamborough Head and there are a number of car parks with toilets in the main car park. There is also a shop and cafe.
So if you fancy visiting the beautiful cliffs at Flamborough Head then why not make Valley View Farm your base in Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Day was revived in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society.
Many events will be taking place across the county.

Signs Of Deer
I love to see deer around the countryside where I live.
There are a number of signs to look out for when deer spotting.
If you would like to book a stay at one of the Valley View Farm holiday cottages then you can book online by clicking on the link or alternatively book over the telephone on 01439 798221.
There are a number of signs to look out for when deer spotting.
- Footprints in soft ground. Deer are cloven-hooved like sheep and goats.
- Fresh droppings are also a sign that deer are near. Their dung is made up of brown or black pellets the size of peas.
- Ragged edges on leaves as the deer graze the leaves.
- Scarred tree bark where the male deer have rubbed their heads against trees and bushes, leaving the bark frayed and bush damaged.
- Big scrapes in the ground where the male is marking out his territory.
- Deer beds where the deer rest and are usually surrounded by plants or shrubs to protect the deer from rain or snow.
- Antlers are shed once a year, so if you are very lucky you may find one or even a pair.
Let me know if you have seen any deer lately.

Country Living Magazine name Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales as one of their top eight places for a wildlife walk.
"The beautiful, undulating landscape of the Yorkshire Dales contains limestone pavement, glaciated valleys and flower-rich hay meadows, interwoven with hillside streams and dry stone walls which combine to create a fertile habitat for wildlife.
The roadsides bloom throughout the year with wildflowers such as sweet cicely, blue meadow crane’s bill, melancholy thistles, yellow rattle and the carnivorous common butterwort. The Farmer Wants A Wife
The Farmer Wants A Wife programme is soon to return to our screens with a fresh set of farmers from all over the country looking to find a wife. A few of the farmers come from Yorkshire so it will be interesting to see if the show helps them to find their perfect partner or if John and I, or our two sons, know the farmers on the programme.
I have heard that Louise Rednapp is to present the programme. As I have my own lingerie business (Amplebosom.com) I was interested to hear that Louise Rednapp will present the show as she is currently the face of Triumph lingerie, so may be she will add a bit of glamour to the programme.

The Great Yorkshire Show - A Great Day Out
John and I had a lovely time at The Great Yorkshire Show on Tuesday. A rare day away from the farm, the cottages and the amplebosom offices.
The weather couldn't have been better and the it was great to see so many people checking out the wonderful Yorkshire fayre.
We enjoyed watching the sheep breed classes and catching up with other fellow farmers.
All in all a great day out, although we were tired upon our return.

Holiday Shopping In North Yorkshire
Do you shop when you go on holiday or do you just like to browse the shops? What do you like to buy - souvenirs, presents for family & friends, fashions items, gourmet food or local arts and crafts items? Let us know, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I am lucky living in North Yorkshire as it has some lovely places for a spot of shopping, whether you're on holiday or not (in my case!).
With a wealth of market towns with interesting shops and market stalls there's always something to meet your shopping needs, whatever your shopping preference!
Why not browse around the shops and stalls in Helmsley which is the nearest town to Valley View Farm, or take a trip to York and meander down the Shambles, or make a day of it at Castle Howard and spend time in the lovely courtyard with the craft workshops and farmshop to offer interesting local fayre.
So if you fancy some holiday shopping in North Yorkshire then why not make Valley View Farm self catering cottages your base.

Egton Bridge Gooseberry Show
Do you love gooseberries or grow gooseberries? If so then the Egton Bridge Gooseberry Show is the show for you!
Egton Bridge Gooseberry Show will be held on Tuesday 4th August 2009 from 2pm. The event takes place in Egton Bridge which is near Whitby in the North York Moors National Park.
This is the oldest surviving gooseberry show in the country, established in 1800.
The show looks to find the heaviest gooseberry and past winners have weighed in at 33 drams which I believe is approximately 2 oz. There are four classes of gooseberries that gardeners can enter the gooseberries in: red gooseberries, yellow ones, greens and white ones.
So if you fancy viewing prize winning gooseberries then why not make Valley View Farm self catering cottages your base.
If you would like to book a stay at one of the Valley View Farm holiday cottages then you can book online by clicking on the link or alternatively book over the telephone on 01439 798221.

The Big Lunch July 19th 2009
Will you be taking part in the big lunch? Do you know what the Big Lunch is?
Well the Big Lunch aims to bring communities together for a lunch time gathering where community members, neighbours and villagers can sit down to have lunch together. This event will take place on 19th July. There is no set format to how the Big Lunch should be organised or where the event should take place. If you live in a town or city then you may want to have a street party, a village community may want to have a picnic or BBQ on the village green. You may want to decorate the street or building and use produce grown as part of your feast, but however you decide to organise the event the aim is to bring a sense of community back into individuals and families lives.
One reason the event was set up was because, in the past communities were built around agriculture and worked to the rhythm of the agricultural calendar, or were formed around a particular industry that bound them together, but today it is felt that people do not necessarily have a sense of community and may not know their neighbours.
I am lucky because as a farmer's wife I am part of the farming community which still has a real sense of community and support about it and living in a lovely rural village where you know many of the villagers.
If you would like to find out more about The Big Lunch or see if there is a Big Lunch taking place near you then visit The Big Lunch website.

The Royal Show
Today sees the start of the last ever Royal Show at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. This is the 160th Royal Show and this year the event will take place from today, Tuesday 7th July until Friday 10th July 2009.
"The Royal Show is the UK’s leading agricultural show which is organised and presented by the Royal Agricultural Society of England. It is held over four days and prides itself on being one of the best events of its kind, celebrating and showcasing all aspects of food, farming and rural life." Source: The Royal Show website.
The agricultural event is being cancelled after this year because of falling visitor numbers and the RASE has said that the show was no longer financially viable and would not continue in its present form.
The first ever Royal Show took place in 1839 and has taken place each year except during World War I and World War II and when there were outbreaks of cattle plague and foot-and-mouth disease.

North Yorkshire & Cleveland Heritage Coast
With the sun shining brightly, thoughts turn to a visit to the beach. The coastal regions of the North York Moors National Park provide the visitor with a rich and varied coastal landscape with high cliffs, secluded bays cut into the cliff face, quaint fishing harbours and dramatic headlands.
Fossil hunting is a great past-time on a visit to the North Yorkshire coastline, as jet and ammonites
